New frontier markets are attracting new agricultural investing

This interesting event in central London was well attended by members of the investment and investment advice community with delegates coming from across the UK , North America and Europe , providing a useful dialogue between companies creating & managing funds and those investing & recommending investments. The focus was less on actual "product" and more on the concept, strategy and reasoning behind their creation and how these investment classes are being appreciated by a wider audience for their unique characteristics. It was generally recognised that the assets, and therefore also the returns, of some funds in this sector are not correlated with regular stocks and bonds, and again how this has advantages to certain types of investor.

Committee on World Food Security establish principles for responsible agricultural investments



After two years of consultation, a set of principles have been established for responsible agricultural investing, that respects; rights, livelihoods, environment and resources. The principles were established during the 39th Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), which ended on Saturday in Rome.

Consultations will be carried out at global and regional levels under the auspices of CFS, the foremost inclusive platform for everyone to agree on policies that ensure food security and nutrition for all. The intergovernmental body is open to effective and meaningful participation by UN bodies, civil society, the private sector, agricultural research institutions, financial institutions and philanthropic foundations.

Ghanaian President Mahama pledges more Government Agricultural Investing in the sector

President John Dramani Mahama has said his government will continue its agricultural investing polices as the sector is the economic backbone of the country's economy.

Apart from feeding the country, it was the best means of creating employment in a country that is seeing rising numbers of workers unemployed and struggling to find work.

ISLAMABAD – Speakers at a workshop here Tuesday stressed the need for enhancing per acre crop productivity at par with the developed world by increasing investment in agriculture research to address the food security issues.
 
A week long workshop on “Food Security Situation in South Asia: Problems and Prospects is being organized by the SAARC human Resource Development Center aiming to bring together the researchers and practitioners and facilitate a dialogue on key issues of food security situation in the SAARC region.

Agricultural Investments | Jim Rogers Joins Russia’s VTB Capital As Agricultural Advisor

VTB Capital, a unit of Russia’s state-controlled VTB Bank, has appointed Singapore-based investor Jim Rogers as an advisor to the agricultural division of its global private equity unit.

The appointment follows VTB’s recent decision to launch an investment platform to tap growth opportunities in the agricultural markets. It expects it can attract between $500 million to $1 billion in investments into the sector over a phased period of investment.
